Daily Care Plan
Based on plant age and bed conditions.
📅 Track your starts
🌱
New Starts · Daily Attention
First 3–4 weeks = most vulnerable window
CHECK DAILY
🫛 T1 Sunny Edibles
Soil now: Moist but not wet ✓ — this is ideal.
Water: Check with finger 1" down at each plant base. Water every other day if top inch is drying. Never overhead — base only.
Watch for: Yellowing = too wet. Wilting midday = needs water.
🥦 T2 Right Veg Bed
Squirrel alert: Check that newly transplanted kale and any other starts are still upright after disturbance.
Beets: Keep surface moist until you see sprouts — do not let crust over.
Hollyhocks: Still hardening off — transplant late April when 4–6 inches tall.
🌀 T1 Borage Corner
Soil now: Dry, sandy, compacted ⚠️ — needs more attention than Sunny Edibles.
Water: Daily at the root ball — small amounts frequently. Sandy soil drains fast.
Rosemary especially: Don't let it fully dry out during establishment.
🫐 Northeast Fence Blueberries
⚠️ May trip: These MUST be on the helper watering list — daily for first 3–4 weeks.
Mulch urgently: Pine bark or cedar bark nuggets — 3–4 inches per plant this week.
Rain is not enough: Water deeply at root ball every 1–2 days regardless of weather.
Established Plants · April Schedule
Morning dew + April rain covers most of these
⚠️ Priority Tasks · This Week
🪴
Rhododendron (front shrub line): Deep soak at base 2× this week. Roof overhang means it gets NO rain.
✂️
Japanese Knotweed (lawn bottom): Cut to ground now if you see shoots. Every 2–3 weeks through summer.
🌾
T3 Native Pollinators: Pull fescue grass around yarrow and goldenrod crowns now.
🌱
Seeds still to sow: Mason bee mix in T3 between blueberry and aster.
💧 The April Rule
Morning dew + Seattle April rain = skip most established beds.
Always check 2" down before watering anything established.
Daily exceptions: new starts at root ball + rhododendron.
